Little Effect from Vax Mandates on Teen HPV Immunizations

Requirements that children receive the Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) and meningococcal vaccines as a condition of public school enrollment boosted their uptake, but such mandates had little effect on human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination rates, researchers said.States that implemented school entry requirements for the Tdap booster and meningococcal vaccines during the study period of 2007-2012 had coverage rates for those immunizations that were, respectively, 22 and 24 percentage points higher than in states without school entry requirements, reported Jennifer L. Moss, PhD, of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and colleagues.
